As part of “Roadmap E”, the Volkswagen Group brands (Audi, SEAT, Porsche, Volkswagen, and Skoda as well as the luxury brands Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini) is planning to put initially 50 new all-electric vehicle models on the road by 2025. To equip its own electric fleet, the Group will need a battery capacity of more than 150 GWh per year by 2025. This corresponds to an annual capacity of at least four “gigafactories” for battery cells. For Europe, Volkswagen has brought on board LG Chem, Samsung and SKI as strategic suppliers. From 2019, battery supply will be ensured with these partners. From 2022, SKI will also cover the Group’s North American market requirements. The strategic partner in China is CATL, which will supply the batteries for the Group’s own electric vehicles there from 2019.

With the move, Volkswagen completes the list of the most important strategic battery cells suppliers for equipping the Group’s electric fleet in the most important regions of the world.
